“No, I’m not here for her.” If only that were wholly true. I haven’t been able to get Wren out of my head. She’s infuriating, like a splinter that gets under your skin but is too small to pull out with tweezers so you have to wait for it to excavate itself.

Havoc came home happy as a fucking clam last night, smelling like her—lavender and citrus. He wouldn’t shut up about how beautiful she is when she falls apart, how their souls are now and forever bound together. Then, because that wasn’t bad enough, he had the gall to tell me I needed to get over my reservations and be prepared to have her in our life.

Suck it up buttercup—even a day later his response is still grating on my nerves.

“Kodiak?” Leigh’s voice cuts through my thoughts, and I realize she’s been talking to me.

“Sorry, I’m distracted, I’ve got a lot going on. What did you say?” I graze my fingers over her bicep, raising a rainfall of goosebumps in their wake. It’s always been purely physical between Leigh and me, but that doesn’t mean I’m an asshole looking to get his dick wet and jet.

A flash of dark hair and pale skin zooms past the small window in the kitchen door and my eyes snap up, searching, waiting. When Wren doesn’t walk back by, I force my gaze back to Leigh.

“I asked how the hunt for new girls is going?”

We rescued Leigh five years ago after she was captured by a sex trafficking ring. She was twenty-two, on a solo vacation in Belarus, when the tour guide spiked her drink and she woke up shackled. From what she’s shared, they kept her for a few months before bringing her to the US, where she was purchased by a couple to be their slave. They put her up for auction a few years later and that’s when we found her. I suspect she has an idea of what we do to the seller after the rescue, but I’ve never divulged that information, and she’s never asked.

“It’s going good, too good.” What I don’t tell her is that we’re seeing an influx of girls at the auctions, and worse than that is the rise in children. Sick fucks. I blow out a harsh breath and unclench the fist at my side. I came here to work out some of this tension, not wind up further.

Stepping forward, I seal my lips to Leigh’s, swallowing her words. She arches into me, wrapping her arms around my neck and scratching her nails along my scalp. I clamp down on the shiver that wants to run through me from my toes up. She and Havoc learned pretty quickly that I love having my scalp scratched.

I push her back against the counter with force and press my hard dick into her stomach, continuing my savage attack on her mouth. She moans against my lips, and writhes in my hold like a good girl, begging for more. Perfect.
